Sony’s new PlayStation 5 Pro model has made a big splash in the gaming world. However, this noise is not only due to its powerful features, but also its high price tag. With its $ 800 price, the PS5 Pro has caused serious debate among gamers. However, Richard Leadbetter, editor-in-chief of the famous technology channel Digital Foundry, said that this price is actually quite reasonable for a PC. So, why?
PS5 Pro is cheaper than a PC with equivalent specs
According to Leadbetter, if you want to build a PC that offers the performance of the PS5 Pro, you could end up with a much higher cost. This isn’t surprising, as a console is a device that focuses entirely on the gaming experience, whereas a PC is a machine that can perform many other functions besides playing games. This increases the cost of a PC with the same level of performance.
The PS5 Pro offers a 45% performance boost over the standard PS5, with 67% more CUs (Compute Units) and faster VRAM. However, no changes have been made to the CPU, meaning it remains on par with the PS5 in terms of processing power. Sony is focusing on three main features for the PS5 Pro: a faster GPU, an AI-powered PSSR upscaler, and advanced ray tracing technology.
Still, the $800 price tag may seem steep to many gamers. But as Leadbetter says, if you want to build a PC that delivers the same performance, you’ll need to shell out well above that price. And considering the PlayStation platform’s support for exclusive games and console game studios, the PS5 Pro could still be a more affordable option.
